Vacancy Details & Requirements

Craft Apprentice

Minimum entry requirements:

  • In Scotland – Three National 5s English, Maths & a Science
  • In England & Wales – Three GCSEs at Grade A-C / 4-9 in English, Maths & a Science (functional Skills at Level 2 in English & Maths will also be accepted.)

Please note that copies of your certificates will be required.

How long is the programme?

  • The programme will last for a 3 year period.  Depending on where you stay in relation to one of our sites, the first 12 months of the apprenticeship could be residential.

What kind of work would be expected from an individual during the programme scheme?

  • During the apprenticeship, successful candidates will attend college for classroom study combined with technical training, carried out at our training centre.

At the end of the programme?

  • You will have completed the Apprenticeship standards expected of a crafts person within the Power Sector.
  • Functional skills in English and Maths. Functional skills are practical skills that help learners get the most out of work, education and everyday life.

Starting Salary

  • Our Craft Apprentice offers an initial starting salary of £10,658 in the first year. This is reviewed in line with company agreements.

Adult Craft Trainee Programme

Minimum entry requirements:

  • Experience of working at heights, preferably with manual handling skills and have worked in an industrial environment where Health & Safety is prominent.
  • Electrical experience / knowledge
  • Trade/Industry related training and/or an apprenticeship is desirable

How long is the programme?

  • The programme will last for up to 2 years. Depending on where you stay in relation to one of our sites, the first 6 months of the apprenticeship could be residential.

What kind of work would be expected from an individual during the programme scheme?

  • Our fast track programme builds on your existing skills from other industries with technical, academic and on the job training. Bringing learning and earning together, not only will you study towards a nationally-recognised qualification, you’ll earn a good salary, develop new skills and gain invaluable knowledge and experience.

At the end of the programme?

  • Successful completion of the programme will lead to being a qualified linesperson, fitter or jointer.

Starting Salary

  • You will receive a starting salary of £20,344. This is reviewed in line with company agreements.

Selection Process

The selection process for both positions will be as follows:

  • Online Application
  • Online Ability Tests
  • Video Interview
  • Practical Assessment Centre
  • Competency Based Interview

Assessment Centres for these roles will take place in early March 2019 with competency based interviews taking place in late March 2019.
