What will you do?

Police Now recruits and trains outstanding graduates, so they can help transform society as neighbourhood police officers and detectives. You will develop Police Now participants throughout the two-year Leadership Development Programme, providing them with professional development, coaching and mentoring. Working closely to build relationships with our partner police forces nationally, you will be critical to successfully embedding our participants into their teams and empowering them to reduce crime, increase public confidence and maximise their impact in communities.  

Our Leadership Development Officers are pivotal to delivering the mission of Police Now. You will work with Police Now neighbourhood and detective participants to enable them to achieve three key objectives across the course of the programme:

  1. Transform communities by delivering sustainable change and demonstrating tangible impact
  2. Drive change and positively influence the development and culture of the police service
  3. Upon completion of the programme, have acquired transferable skills and high potential for future leadership roles

 As a Leadership Development Officer, you will drive participant experience and performance by:

 Holding Personal Development Sessions and coaching style conversations with participants

  • Building effective, credible relationships with participants’ line managers and police colleagues
  • Contributing to the development and design of other aspects of the two-year programme

 

Who are we looking for?

We need exceptional relationship builders with optimism, adaptability and a willingness to work in a fast-moving, innovative start-up. You must possess a genuine commitment to public service, the Police Now mission and values and be passionate about developing yourself and others. Having responsibility for your own portfolio of participants, you will be key to the success of our participants on their two-year journey to transform communities through innovation, demand reduction and system change.

You can prioritise, manage yourself with limited oversight and deliver a challenging yet manageable workload in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment. You can get things done in an environment where priorities and deadlines can change quickly. This role is unique – you will be part of a large, dynamic Leadership Development team and it is vital you are able to work well both independently and within a diverse team.

 

What do you need?

  • Excellent relationship building skills  
  • A proven ability to exert a positive impact on the performance of others, through either leading, coaching, mentoring, assessing and/or developing individuals  
  • A high level of personal resilience  
  • A willingness to travel within England and Wales, including spending some nights away from home and the occasional evening 
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage projects  
  • The ability to manage difficult conversations and diffuse conflict  
  • The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Confidence presenting to small groups of individuals  
  • Good written communication skills
