Based across Nottingham City

Nottingham City Council has declared a Climate Emergency and committed to being Carbon Neutral by 2028. Already our Greener Housing programme has seen more than 6000 homes receive solid wall insulation and 4000 have solar PV installed. In 2018 we also won the Innovation of the Year award at the UK Housing Awards, for our Energiesprong pilot which was part of the REMOURBAN EU funded project, which received recognition across Europe for its innovation in technical solutions and business models. We are now exploring how to achieve the Councils Carbon Neutral target in the most cost effective way, and we have a series of new projects to help us test and refine our approach.

Fixed-term contract/secondment opportunity until 31 December 2021

We have an exciting secondment opportunity for an enthusiastic Technical Officer to join our Sustainable Energy team. Reporting to the Technical Project Manager, you will act as the connection between our onsite Constructor partners and NCH, overseeing and monitoring contractor performance, helping to ensure projects are completed on time, on budget and to specified standards. You will take a pivotal role in the day to day operational running of retrofit projects and effective site delivery. We will also look to you to play a key role in communicating with our tenants, keeping them informed about the progress of the project and the impact it may have on them.

Fundamental to this role is communication and you will need to demonstrate your strong interpersonal skills in everything you do. You will need to adapt your approach to communicate complex technical construction and energy issues to suit your audience, considering their level of knowledge. You will be required to understand the technical issues of the projects whether these are contractual, legal, technology, energy or construction related and be able to challenge working practices and standards where necessary.

The ideal candidate will be able to relay clear and easy to understand information with a range of stakeholders and have experience of co-ordinating resources and contractors. Ideally you will have knowledge and understanding of financial regulations and the ability to challenge standards of work and costings where necessary. You will be required to work alongside the project team as well as linking into the NCH Project Liaison Officers, so it is vital you offer a collaborative approach to working as part of a team.

You are required to have sound technical knowledge of the energy and/or construction industry, with a qualification in a relevant technical subject being advantageous.
