About the role

BWB Consulting has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Consultant/Engineer at Associate level status in the Water team, based in our Nottingham office.

The successful applicant will act as Team Leader for our Nottingham team and be expected to manage and contribute to delivery of projects related to flood risk, sustainable drainage and hydraulic modelling as well as provide support to the management team.

A key element of the role will be operational and commercial management of projects delivered by the team, working with internal and external Clients.

Water is a diverse service with schemes from pre-planning through to construction and spanning flood risk, sustainable drainage (SuDS), hydraulic modelling, Environmental Impact Assessments and GIS disciplines. We expect the successful applicant to have a broad understanding across these areas but accept and welcome someone who has a specialist civil engineering or hydraulic modelling experience.

About the team

The BWB Environment Group has the capability to provide the integrated ‘one stop shop’ service needed for major projects, as well as tailored or bespoke specialist services. Our Environment Group provides advisory, investigative, design and validation services relating to all aspects of the ground and water environment.

The Water Service sits within the Environment Group which is made up of a range of qualified engineers and environmental consultants with specific experience in flood risk, drainage, and environmental planning/engineering disciplines. We have a presence across the country and are keen to encourage opportunities for training and career development tailored to individual personalities. 

Working as part of a multidisciplinary BWB project team or independently, we provide consultancy services to the development and property sector on projects of any type or size, from pre-planning application through to construction. The breadth and scale of work is incredibly varied.

The team provides a comprehensive design and advisory service focused on meeting the engineering challenges involved in servicing the infrastructure requirements of regeneration and development projects.  We work across the transport, residential, commercial, industrial, health and retail sectors and our clients range from local and national developers and contractors to public sector bodies.

About you

We are seeking a candidate with the following qualities;

  • Experience, knowledge and demonstrable capability in the areas of flood risk, sustainable drainage and hydraulic modelling.
  • Excellent communicator, both written and oral, with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different circumstances.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and manage resources to ensure efficient delivery of projects.
  • Commercially astute with strong and effective influencing and negotiating skills, as well as a proven ability to develop and maintain their own Client base.
  • A decisive and inclusive management style, with desire to take responsibility and be held to account for all aspects of personal and team performance.
  • Keen to keep learning to improve own breadth of knowledge and technical expertise.

Ideally the successful candidate will hold, or be working towards professional membership of a relevant institution (ICE, CIWEM).

Ideally you should be able to demonstrate experience and technical knowledge commensurate with your existing background in the following areas and software packages;

  • AutoCAD, Micro Drainage, Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, GIS (QGIS)
  • Sewers for Adoption, SuDS Manual
  • Environmental Impact Assessments
  • Water Framework Directive
  • Planning Application process
  • Environment Agency and Local Authority guidance
  • Willingness to travel and a full driving licence are essential to the role.
