About the role

BWB Consulting has an exciting opportunity for Building Physics Consultant to be based in our London office.

The successful candidate will lead, grow and promote through BWB and to external clients our dynamic building analysis capability which shall include:-

  • Thermal analysis
  • Internal daylight simulation
  • Daylight, sunlight and overshadowing assessments
  • Building Regulations Part L compliance assessments
  • Energy Performance Certificates
  • Energy and sustainability statements including renewables analysis
  • Lighting impact assessments
  • Glare analysis
  • Passive design assessment
  • Thermal bridging calculations
  • Mentoring M&E Building Engineers & Technicians

The individual shall possess a ‘hands-on’ approach and capability to all elements of building physics and champion innovation in both the methods used to undertake and record the assessments and also the inclusion of best practice in sustainable building design through our in-house built environment design consultants. This shall include developing our expertise in building physics analysis into a BIM environment to promote efficiency in our wider built environment design capability.


About the team

We are in the middle of very exciting times for our mechanical and electrical building engineering services discipline and indeed for BWB as a whole. Consequently we are looking to grow this dynamic and integral team to include increased expertise within our building physics capability. We currently provide a comprehensive design and advisory service focused on areas such as:

  • Pre-planning concept to detailed working design of all mechanical and electrical building engineering services for end users, developers and contractors.
  • Expertise in delivery of projects in a BIM environment embedding production of both calculations and drawings into a common model.
  • Holistic whole life asset cycle consultation services from pre-acquisition surveys, building design and post-occupancy energy compliance for leading portfolio asset management funds.

About you

We are looking for an ambitious, conscientious person who wants to be part of a vibrant team and is willing to learn. You will be expected to have the following personal attributes and skills:

  • Existing expertise in all elements of building physics
  • Desire to be actively involved in growth and development of the M&E discipline which encompasses the building physics capability throughout the business and have aspirations to progress your career
  • Accredited Level 4 and 5 Low Carbon Energy Assessor and be proficient in using IES Virtual Environment software
  • Good working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems to inform Building Regulations compliance and influence system selection
  • Strong IT skills in the use of BIM focussed design software, Microsoft Office applications, IES VE, Sketchup etc combined with a practical approach. You will also be able to demonstrate ability to work well in a team environment whilst also having personal initiative
  • Be comfortable working across the complete network of BWB Group offices and interface with colleagues through a mixture of face to face meetings, telephone conversations, video conference facilities and remotely accessing computers
  • Be presentable and able to convey a professional image at client, project and internal team meetings

Applicants should be able to present relevant experience, preferably through work experience and as part of an academic course, where invited to interview.
