About the role

BWB Consulting has an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to be based in either our Nottingham or Birmingham office.

The Geotechnical team are looking to build upon their existing capability and you will be one of the key players in a thriving engineering environment. From desk study to design you will be involved in every stage of project delivery.

Sitting within our Geotechnical team the successful applicant will be expected to take a key technical role on a wide range of diverse and interesting geotechnical projects; providing innovative commercial solutions to the projects in which they are involved.

The role will require frequent site visits, and short term site based work is to be expected.

Our work is varied and widespread, supporting our clients on projects throughout the UK and abroad. The ideal candidate will be willing to accept the challenges for what they are and thrive within a growing and diverse engineering environment.


The team

The Environment Group includes Contaminated Land, Geotechnical, Environmental Due Diligence and Flood Risk teams. Due to the continued success and growth of our Geotechnical team, we are looking for an enthusiastic Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical team.


About you

The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree or equivalent in a geotechnical discipline with experience in a geotechnical design team. Ideally, they will be progressing towards Chartership within a relevant professional institution, and have at least 2 years’ experience in the Consultancy environment.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate good experience and working knowledge of the following areas of work:

  • Experience of managing and supervising geotechnical investigations including soil and rock logging, soil and groundwater sampling and in-situ testing.
  • Delivery of geotechnical projects and reports with working knowledge of UK design codes (including EC7 Part 1, and UK annexes), standards and specifications.
  • Geotechnical design experience including design of foundations, earthworks, retaining structures and slopes.
  • Knowledge of dealing with sites that have issues with historic mining activity
  • Demonstrate the ability to have dealt with Contractors on major earthwork projects
  • Familiarity in the use of geotechnical software is a benefit but not essential as full training can be provided.
  • Competency with the MS Office suite of programs and strong communication skills are a must.
  • Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget with a strong focus on client care is essential, as is a willingness to travel.
  • A full driving license is essential.
  • A basic understanding of UK legislation relating to ground contamination and developing awareness of how risks and liabilities will impact upon land ownership and development would be an advantage.
